Biography
Not one to be typecast, Ruth is more than just a musician.
After graduating from the prestigious Berklee Music of College, she wasn’t content to take home Summa Cum Laude in Music Production and Engineering.
She also brought back her self-produced debut album, How Can I Not and a ‘live’ recording, Live, Unplugged at BCEC.That was just the beginning of her music career.
Comfortable both on stage and in the wings, Ruth is a performer in her own right.As a solo artist, she has performed at various music venues such as Jazz@Southbridge and the Esplanade, both alongside established musicians like Jacintha Abishganaden and Cat Ong, as well as guest starred for regional artistes like Alex Su.
As a musician, she has toured with overseas artists such as Stefanie Sun, Sally Yeh (HK), Eric Moo (M’sia) and Saraa (Mongolia). She has also accompanied local singers such as Wendi Koh, Cat Ong, Robert Fernando, Jessica Soo, Aubrey Ng and Clement Chow.
Ruth has also recorded for A*mei, S.H.E. and Penny Dai.Her songs and arrangements are also on the albums of Sandy Lam, Edison Chen, Jordan Chan and Denise Ho. Besides production work, she wants to pursue music directing in the long run. As a start, she has music directed concerts for Taiwanese artists Wan Fang, Yu Tai Yan and Yin Zhen Yang.
She has also worked as Music director for local rock artist Wendi Koh for over 2 years, and was the music director for the shows - “40th Anniversary Tribute to Zhou Xuan” and “Music Story with Anthony Png”, both held at the Esplanade concert hall.
Effectively bilingual, she weaves Western influences seamlessly with her Eastern roots.At home, Ruth fronts Singapore’s all female Jazz/RnB band, Walking on Water.
Together they have performed at the Esplanade Concert Hall and Fort Canning Park, among many other locations. In December 2006, they released their debut album, Into Our Faith.
Singer, Songwriter, Pianist, Composer, Arranger, or Producer?
To this all-rounded Artist, titles like these don’t really matter. Because what she really wants to do is touch the audience with her heartfelt music. And produce classic songs that’ll have our generation humming along for… generations.
